Bicycle:
| Type/Manufacturer:
| Comment:
|
| Frame: | Papalagi MTB Cycletech (Urs) Centurion (Lisa) | - better a good steel frame than aluminum (easy to weld)! - because of cleaning i prefer a top pull than a dwon pull drailleur |
headset:
| Chris King | - expenisive, but works very well
|
bottom bracket:
| Shimano UN72
| - without any problem for 26000km - it is essential to buy a good bottom bracket, since repairs are almost impssible
|
crankset:
| Shimano FC-M442 44/32/22 cog
| - I try to use as often as possible the big and the smallest gear wheel, since the middle one is normally used up first
|
| cassette: | Shimano XT 9x 11-34 cog
| - use a casette with spider: even after a long time in use it is easy to assemble and disassemble |
| chain: | Shimano HG73 | - every 2000km I change the chain, alternating with 2 chains, like this we made more than 26`000km with one set of chains and gear wheels
|
| shifters: | Shimano DuraAce SL shift levers + Paul adpter | - simpel: work always without any problem, gear manual adjustable -
protect the cable on critical postions with tape
|
| brakes: | Avid / Shimano XT | - no problmes on the breaks, depending on the wheater the break pads are quick or slowly used
|
| hubs: | Shimano XT | - front hubs without any problems
- on both rear hubs we had to change the balls and polish the ball bearing after 20`000km (probably because of the strong sand stomrs) |
| rims: | Sunrim Rhyno Lite, 32 holes, for Presta valve, welded | - because of stability and availability of spare parts 26"
- excellent strong double wall rim
with luggage and bad roads the rims often get small cracks around the eyelets:
- only 32 holes, like this the distance between the holes is bigger
- Presta-valve holes since the diameter is smaller than the one of a Schrader valve
- check the rim regular for cracks (unlikly on the Sunrim Rhyno Lite)
|
| tyres: | rear: SchwalbeMarathonXR
front: Schwalbe Marathon
both26" x 2.05 | - very good tyre, only few flats
- smaller than 2.05" tyres dont fit well on this rim
- for the front wheel, the cheaper standard Schwalbe Marathon is enough (no need XR)
- as spare tyre Schwalbe Marathon XR, since it is foldable
- a rear tyre can be used for about 20'000km, the front more than 30`000km |
| spokes: | DT Competition 2.0/1.8 | - the wheels should be made by a professional, till now i never had a spoke broken |
saddle:
| Brooks B17 / B17 Lady
| - i like it, Lisa not as much
|
| handlebar: | Yuma 545mm | - because can hold the bar in many postions very nice for a long ride
|
| mirror: | no-name | - bought for 1USD in the basar of Osh - in this postion the mirror doesnt break even if the bike fall
|
| racks: | Tubus Cargo + Tara / Ergo | - need to be a steel tube, NO aluminum
- Trans-X stand fits the front rack
- use a plastic tube on the rack instead of the little U on the Ortlieb bags
|
| stand: | Trans-X | an additional stand on the front rack makes the bike very stable standing, even if it is heavy loaded
|
| bottle cage: |
| - pet bottles up to 2 liters can be used
- use a plastic bottle cage for the metal bottel containing the benzin for the stove
|
|
|
|
| trailer + accessories: |
|
|
| trailer: | BOB Yak 26" without suspension
| - add some plastic tubes for additional water bottles, fruits or also rubish, blue plastc to protect the bag - welded profile steel on the bottom to avaid the grid loosening - change the hub to DT Swiss 370 Advantage: wind resistance is much lower, big advantage in the front and side wind; very stable during downhill riding; nobody can just grip the bag and run away; no problem on dirt raods Disadvantage: can not lift the bike alone without taking of the trailer; hard to push in the sand or mud
|
| bag: | Ortlieb Rack-Pack XL | - repair the holes with tape
|
bicycle bags:
| Ortlieb Bikepaker Classic Ortlieb Frontroller Classic
| - repair the holes with tabe
|
handlebar bag: | Ortlieb, size L
| - with foam for the camera
|
lock:
| Kryptonite U-lock Kryptonite cable 2m | |
